How Much Does Hail Damage Repair Cost?

The short answer — it all depends on what’s been damaged. Usually, windows and the roof sustain the most damage.

There’s no definite answer as to how much exactly hail damage repair will cost in Amarillo, TX. Repair costs will be defined by what parts of your home have been impacted.

In the aftermath of a hail storm, take a close look at your property and see what’s been hit. Windows are usually the first thing that property owners will look at after a hail storm. After examining the windows, you should check the roof.

How Much Will I Pay for Repairs?

When a roof is damaged, the average cost to repair it after a hail storm is $6300. Overall pricing can increase with damage to other parts of your property. With damaged windows, roof, and siding, you might have to pay somewhere in the $10,000 range.

Hail Damage Roof Repair: What You Need to Know

10/4/2021 (Permalink)

storm damage on roof A dependable hail damage roof repair service can alleviate your concerns. SERVPRO Amarillo accepts calls 24/7.

According to recent statistics, intense winds and hail cause 15 billion dollars in losses in the US alone, accounting for around 40 percent of insurance claims.

The associated costs associated with storm and hail damage can quickly accrue, since hail damage impacts just about everything outside, including your windows, cars, and roof.

Some hail damage signs are visible from the ground, like dented cars and broken windows. However, unnoticeable and hidden hail damage requires a seasoned professional to detect.

Even when you don’t have roof holes because of hail damage, a hail damage roof inspection team is necessary to gauge the intensity of the destruction and how you can proceed with the necessary roof repairs.

For immediate assistance, contact SERVPRO Amarillo at (806) 331-4555 for a free consultation.

How Does Hail Damage the Roof?

The extent of roof damage from hail is contingent on several factors:

  • Wind direction
  • Hail size
  • Wind speed
  • Roof material
  • Roof condition

However, no matter the elements, hail damage can be destructive for a roof and lead to roof leakages and other problems.

The loss can be cosmetic or functional. But cosmetic destruction is often more severe than it seems. For example, issues like denting, broken edges, granule loss, and punctures can cause severe complications, although they might seem like only surface problems initially.

Here is an in-depth analysis of how hail damage impacts a common asphalt shingle roof:

Granule Loss

A granule is like the sandpaper section of the shingle. When shingles lose a granule, their blacktop coating is open to the elements, leading to quicker aging. So make sure you monitor your downspouts and gutters after a hailstorm to check if the granules are missing from your shingles.

Exposed Fiberglass Mat

The impact of hail on roofs can shatter the surfacing of shingles, causing them to break from the fiberglass mat below.

Shingle Cracks

High winds or hard hail collisions can cause cracks while gripping the shingles. This can result in tears and exposure, which can leave your rooftop with visible bald spots. In addition, cracked shingles can’t efficiently secure your rooftop from extreme weather conditions.

Fractured Fiberglass Mat

When it comes to fractured fiberglass, it can be slightly harder to identify and typically requires a skilled person. In addition, fractured fiberglass mats can lead to cracks and tears that continue to get bigger if left alone, threatening the integrity of your roof.

When you know about these common types of damages from hail, you can look for damage indicators on your roof post-hailstorm.

Wrapping Up

A dependable hail damage roof repair service can alleviate your concerns. SERVPRO Amarillo accepts calls 24/7. To request a free quote on your roof repair, call us at (806) 331-4555.

Flooding isn't always covered!

8/2/2021 (Permalink)

According to the Insurance Information Institute, almost half (43%) of homeowners incorrectly believe flood damage from heavy rain is covered under their standard insurance policy.  The standard policy doesn’t cover flood damage from heavy rain or a hurricane-driven storm surge. Supplemental insurance is needed for such instances. Flood insurance can be gotten through NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) as a separate policy.

Flood Damage Is NOT Covered When it comes to water damage caused by weather driven, ground-level flooding. For example, there is no coverage if:

  • A hurricane storm surge damages your property.
  • Heavy rains flood your basement.
  • An overflowing river or creek damages your home; or
  • Tsunami-driven water destroys your home.

For coverage for these, a separate flood insurance policy available from the NFIP and a few private insurers must be purchased.

Some good news: homeowners insurance helps you keep a roof over your head if your house has been destroyed or rendered uninhabitable. Standard policies generally cover special living costs incurred when you cannot live in your home because of an insured loss. Covered costs include additional expenses for temporary housing, hotel bills, restaurant meals and other expenses. This provision—known as “Additional Living Expenses” or ALE coverage—can provide peace of mind and help families move past disasters.

Storms and Water Damages

SERVPRO of West Amarillo Proudly serves Amarillo and all twenty-six counties of the Texas Panhandle area. Call us at 806-331-4555 for help!

With the rainy season hanging around, here are some reminders that there are many ways for rainwater to cause a water damage in your home. Whether it be a damaged roof, a slab leak, a flooded crawlspace, or various other situations, SERVPRO © of West Amarillo is here to help with all of your mitigation and restoration needs.

 Preventing Water Damage

Prevention is key—there is no such thing as being too safe when it comes to a potential (and costly) water damage. While you can’t prevent a flood or other natural disasters, there are a few things that you can do that can help to prevent water damage from occurring in your home or business:

  • Inspect your roof. Missing shingles and other problems with the roof could easily allow rainwater to seep through, causing water damage to your home.
  • Clean the gutters regularly. The gutters are designed to capture water and direct it away from the home, but they can’t do this properly if filled with leaves, twigs, and other debris gathered there.
  • Make sure your windows aren’t leaking. It is never a bad idea to make sure your windows are caulked and sealed to prevent any possible leakage.
  • Inspect your window AC units. Window air conditioning units sometimes can allow water to invade the home, or when not sealed properly, rain can enter around the AC unit.
  • Pay attention to your foundation. If you know of any prior damage to your foundation, whether it be a concrete slab or pier and beam, make sure to have it fixed before the spring season. It could mean the difference of having a water damage versus preventing one.
  • Know your area’s flood risk. Does your area receive regular spring rainfall? Do you live in an area that is more susceptible to water intrusion? If so, do you have a plan? Staying alert is always advised.

Wind Damage

3/15/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO© of West Amarillo 806-331-4555 When fire and water take control of your life, we help you take it back.

Those who live in Tornado Alley are familiar with wind damage.  Frequently rain accompanies wind and that’s when damage can escalate.

According to the Enhanced Fujita Scale in use since 2006, even the lowest level (EF-0) of tornadic activity comes with winds between 65 and 85 miles per hour.  At this level homes can lose roofing material.  The EF-1 produce winds between 86 and 110 miles per hour which can cause significant loss of roofing material.  And once roofing material is gone, the home is vulnerable to water.

If after a high wind event you notice brown stains on ceilings or walls, you could have water damage.

If you suspect water damage, SERVPRO© of West Amarillo are the Professionals to call.  You will get an honest answer to your questions and your concerns addressed.  We document all work done in the format your insurance company requires and submit directly to them to save stressed homeowners at least one hassle.

Thunderstorm Safety

If you find yourself with damage inside your home due to water, lightning, fire or even all three, SERVPRO® of West Amarillo 806-331-4555

If you are new to the Texas Panhandle Area, as in you arrived yesterday, you know we experience lots of thunderstorms. More than any other state in fact, about 140 a year.

Lightning Safety

Thunderstorms always have lightning, but they don’t always have thunder.

Should a thunderstorm hit while enjoying the outdoors:

  • Seek Shelter! Enclosed buildings are best, picnic areas, under trees, tents or sheds are WORST. Get in your vehicle unless it’s a convertible. No shelter? Lie flat in a low spot on the ground and cover your ears.
  • If you are driving, pull over a safe distance from the road, stay inside with the doors shut and the windows closed.
  • Try and stay at least 15 feet from other people so lightning won’t jump from one person to the next.
  • Do not use your cell or touch any metal.

High Wind Safety

  • Seek shelter or stand close to a building.
  • Don’t climb up on anything
  • Don’t stand under a tree, a limb could break off in high winds.
  • Watch for power lines, and if you see one, avoid it.
  • If you are inside your car when a power line falls onto it, stay inside, and DO NOT touch any metal. Try to get someone’s attention and have them call 911.
  • If you are driving, pull over. High winds have been known to blow vehicles into another lane, flip over buses, vans, and RVs.

Tornado Alley Preparations

6/15/2020 (Permalink)

When storm damage strikes, SERVPRO® of West Amarillo will be there to help make it "Like it never even happened." ® 806-331-4555

From January to November of 2019 there were 1,431 tornadoes in the United States. That was an increase from 1,060 from the same period in 2018. Tornadoes killed 38 people in 2019, up from 2018 in that had 8 people die.

SERVPRO® of West Amarillo recommends getting weather-ready by following these tornado preparation tips:

  • Know the signs of a tornado and high-risk weather.
  • Create and practice a tornado evacuation plan with your family including your pets.
  • Keep up with your local weather and know when to expect possible high-risk weather.
  • Create and store an emergency kit. This should contain flashlights, a battery powered radio, extra batteries, water, medications, food, duct tape, plastic bags or tarp, identification, a spare set of keys, cash, copies of important documents, a whistle, a phone and charger, a first aid kit, candles, lighter and matches, blankets, and sets of dry clothes.
  • Safely get to a safe room, basement, or storm cellar if possible. Do not wait until last minute to take shelter—this increases risk of injury or the inability to take proper shelter.
  • If you don’t have access to underground shelter, go to the smallest interior room on the lowest level, such as a bathroom or closet.
  • Avoid windows, doors, and outside walls.
  • DO NOT seek shelter under a bridge or overpass! A safer location would be a low, flat area.

In the case of tornado conditions, remain calm and wait for the storm to pass. Your priority is keeping yourself and others safe. We at SERVPRO® of West Amarillo know all too well that things can either be restored or replaced but your loved ones cannot.

Flash Flood Knowledge

5/24/2019 (Permalink)

We at SERVPRO of West Amarillo know how crazy the Texas Panhandle weather has been lately. We are blessed to see the rain but know that too much can be dangerous. SERVPRO of West Amarillo would love to be the first on the scene to help during your storm-caused disaster at home, but we also take pride in providing tips to keep you safe during inclement weather.

Sometimes flash floods can come, along with all this rain. It is important to know what flash floods are, what to do to prepare for them, and how to react if they become a reality.

A flash flood is a sudden local flood, due to heavy rain. A flash flood watch means that there is a possibility for flash flooding in your area. A flash flood warning means that flash flooding is already occurring or will occur soon in your area.

Helpful tips:

  • Stay alert and updated on the weather! There are news channels, radio stations, apps, and websites to help with this. If you do not have access to any of the mentioned resources, it is advised that you ask a neighbor or friend.
  • Create an emergency kit for inclement weather. If the kit was made in previous years, make sure the food supply is replenished, there are fresh batteries for radios and flashlights, and that all documents and identification are up to date.
  • Turn around, don’t drown. It is common to think that your car can handle driving in flood water, but it is never a good idea. The water pressure on the doors could trap you in the vehicle, you place yourself at higher risk of drowning, wash out on roads could occur and cause you to have an accident, the water could cause an automobile accident or other damage to your car, and not to mention, emergency responders are already super busy, so unless there is an absolute emergency, do not try to brave driving in the waters.
  • Keep children and pets out of the flood waters. There are high risks of fast-moving debris, toxins, microbials, and other dangers in the water.
  • Do not return to affected areas until told by official authorities to do so.

Tornado Preparedness

5/15/2019 (Permalink)

Tornadoes are no surprise here in the Texas Panhandle! Although we have seen tornadic conditions many times in our area of rural America, it is always important to refresh ourselves on what to do in the situation of having dangerous weather. SERVPRO of West Amarillo stands with you on being weather-ready by following the recommended tornado preparation tips:

  • Know your area’s tornado risk.
  • Know the signs of a tornado and high-risk weather.
  • Create and practice a tornado evacuation plan with your family that includes your pets.
  • Keep up with your local weather and know when to expect possible high-risk weather.
  • Create and store an emergency kit. This could contain flashlights, a battery powered radio, extra batteries, bottled water, snacks, whatever special foods and items you may need for infants, senior citizens, or other specialized individuals, masking or duct tape, personal identification, a spare set of keys, credit cards or cash, important documents, a whistle in case you may need emergency retrieval, a phone and charger, a first aid kit, candles, a lighter and matches, and blankets.
  • Safely get to a safe room, basement, or storm cellar if possible. Do not wait until last minute to take shelter—this increases risk of injury or the inability to take proper shelter!
  • If you don’t have access to underground shelter, go into a small interior room on the lowest level, such as a bathroom or closet.
  • Stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls.
  • DO NOT seek shelter under a bridge or overpass! A safer location would be a low, flat area.

In the case of tornadic conditions, always remain calm and wait for the storm to pass. The biggest priority is keeping yourself and others safe. We at SERVPRO of West Amarillo know all too well that things can either be restored or replaced, but your loved ones, friends, and pets cannot.

Springtime Water Damages

3/11/2019 (Permalink)

The spring months are approaching quickly as we wrap up the last stretch of winter. While we are relieved that the season of freezing, bursting pipes is finally over, we are approached with yet another risk—the rainy season. There are many ways for rainwater to cause a water damage in your home. Whether it be a damaged roof allowing leakage, a slab leak, a flooded crawlspace, or other situations, SERVPRO of West Amarillo is here to help with any and all your restoration needs.

Preventing Water Damage

Prevention is key—there is no such thing as being too safe when it comes to a potential (and costly) water damage. While you can’t prevent a flood or any other natural disasters, there are a few things that you can do that could be helpful during Spring to prevent water damage from occurring in your home:

  • Inspect your roof. Missing shingles and other problems with the roof could easily cause rainwater to seep through, causing water damage to your home.
  • Clean the gutters regularly. The gutters are designed to capture water and direct it away from the home, but they will not do this correctly if filled with dead leaves, twigs, etc. that were deposited there from previous fall and winter seasons.
  • Make sure your windows aren’t leaking. When approaching spring, it is never a bad idea to assure that your windows are caulked and sealed to prevent any possible leakage.
  • Test your window AC units. Spring time means warmer weather, and in many cases, that means it is finally time to turn on the air conditioner! Window air conditioning units sometimes can leak water in the home or when not sealed properly, rain can enter around the AC unit. It’s best to pay close attention to this when first installing the air conditioning unit for the warmer months.
Do you live in an area that is more susceptible to flooding? If so, do you have an evacuation plan? Staying alert is always advised.

What to Do in the Event of a Water Damage

As previously stated, you cannot prevent all floods and natural disasters from taking a toll on your home. Below are some tips that SERVPRO of West Amarillo recommends in the event of water damages:

  • Call SERVPRO of West Amarillo at (806) 331-4555 so that we can be on the scene as quickly as possible to prevent further damage.
  • Call your insurance and file a claim. Have the claim number and any adjuster information ready so that we can assess the situation with your insurance company. Our experienced office staff will be in direct contact with your insurance throughout the entire process to relieve as much stress from your shoulders as possible.
  • Remain calm. We understand that the situation is a very stressful and it can be hard to remain collected but rest assured that SERVPRO of West Amarillo’s team of trained and trustworthy technicians will do their absolute best to restore your home and make it “Like it never even happened.”
  • Avoid any rooms that may have standing water. There are electrical shock hazards that are associated with standing water, and it is never a good idea to risk it.
  • Turn off the circuit breaker for all affected areas.
  • Move any moisture-sensitive/valuable objects to a dry, safe area. This could be electronics, art objects, documents, etc. Do not put yourself at risk to do so, but if possible, this is always a good idea.

Flood Tips

3/30/2018 (Permalink)

Floods are one of the most common and widespread disasters in the United states. Whether your home or business is near a coastline, along city streets, in the mountains, near a river, or even in the desert- there is always a potential for flood damage.

SERVPRO of West Amarillo offers you these tips:

  • Stay away from floodwaters. If you come up on a flowing stream where water is above your ankles, stop, turn around, and go another way. Six inches of swiftly moving water can sweep you off your feet.
  • If you approach a flooded road while driving, turn around and go another way. If you are caught on a flooded road and waters are rising rapidly around you, get out of the car quickly and move to higher ground. Most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of moving water.
  • Keep children out of the water. They are curious and often lack judgment about running water or contaminated water.

If a flood does strike your home or business, contact SERVPRO of West Amarillo (806)331-4555

Even minor floods have the potential to cause major damage to a structure when not treated quickly and properly, and the cleanup is often and overwhelming task. The SERVPRO system is prepared to handle any sized disaster.

When fire and water take control of your life, SERVPRO of West Amarillo will help you take it back.

Wildfires in the Texas Panhandle

The Texas panhandle experiences storm situations from ice storms to heavy rain and tornadoes. The residents of the panhandle region are no strangers to wildfires. With our vast open fields meant for crops and grazing, and that wild West Texas wind, we see many grassfires every year during every season. These fires can take days or weeks to put out and the damage they cause is devastating. Our rural residents call on SERVPRO of West Amarillo to clean up their soot and smoke damaged homes. You can see in the photo that this particular wildfire burned right up to this home, but stopped right outside.

If you or anyone you know has damage due to a grass or wildfire call SERVPRO of West Amarillo today at (806) 331-4555

  • Only do activities that are safe for you to perform.
